Concussion Treatment And Recovery With Hyperbaric Plus™
A concussion is a brain injury that can vary in severity. From a minor hit from an intense header in a soccer game to an absolutely crushing blow in a car accident, concussions show themselves in many different ways.
Altogether, a concussion should not go untreated because after time the effects can worsen, especially with age. Some professional athletes have experienced memory loss because of repeated concussions without treatment. Others who have taken the time to heal their brains after a concussion have noticed improved motor skills and overall health.
LyfeWell Integrative Healthcare offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) for concussion treatment in Johns Creek. No matter how you got the concussion, it is important to treat it just as you would any other type of injury.
Hyperbaric Plus™ Treatment For Concussion
Our primary treatment is called Hyperbaric Plus™, which means enhanced hyperbaric oxygen therapy. It is like traditional HBOT but with a bit of pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF) included at the beginning to help stimulate circulation so the body is more receptive to HBOT.
Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy stimulates circulation. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy increases the amount of oxygen exposure to three times more than normal. Together, these therapies quickly and efficiently move more oxygen throughout the body, which stimulates injury recovery by re-building cell structure. Scientifically, the increased levels of oxygen help induce neuroplasticity that lends itself to repairing chronic brain injury. This results in higher development of motor skills as well as repair of the damaged tissue itself.
What To Expect During Treatment
Hyperbaric Plus™ treatment begins with 20 minutes of PEMF. Members relax on a chaise lounge and let the therapy get to work. Following this, members move into a hyperbaric chamber for the remaining 70 minutes of treatment.
As mentioned, HBOT exposes someone to three times more oxygen than normal. Moreover, it is pure oxygen, which is a great difference than the polluted air we breathe regularly. HBOT is a relaxing treatment. Members are encouraged to bring a book, smart device, or pillow and blanket for a rejuvenating nap.
Many people describe the initial effects of HBOT as flying in an airplane because the increased air pressure often causes ears to pop. However, this subsides after the first few minutes.
Hyperbaric Plus™ is not a one-and-done type of treatment. It is unrealistic to expect that after 90 minutes one can completely heal their brain of a concussion. Therefore, it is recommended to return for regular treatment sessions so the body can fully repair its cellular structure, heal the damaged brain tissue, and then train itself to be stronger than before.
