How Hyperbaric Plus™ Helps Those With Autism & ADHD
Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have found incredible success with the help of Hyperbaric Plus™. To understand how our therapy can improve cranial function, it is first important to understand how a brain with ASD or ADHD works. During your initial visit we will discuss Hyperbaric Plus™ treatment and how its lasting effects can improve the quality of life for nearly anyone who tries it.
Autism and ADHD Brain Function
A brain without autism helps the person focus on the task at hand by connecting with the heart to increase blood flow to the brain, which delivers oxygen and glucose to the brain that help it complete the task. In autistic brains, it seems there is an opposite function. People with ASD experience a lack of blood flow to the brain when a task must be completed. For this reason, there are delayed or altered functions because there is not enough oxygen or glucose in the brain to fully complete the transaction.
Similarly, but without as much notable research, brains with ADHD experience a lack of blood flow during certain functions, especially regarding emotional and social tasks.
This cranial function in those with autism or ADHD leads researchers to believe it is because of cerebral hypoxia due to hypoperfusion. Cerebral hypoxia is improper oxygen delivery, while hypoperfusion is decreased blood flow.
In conjunction, brains with autism or ADHD struggling to successfully complete tasks or comprehend emotions because of a lack of blood flow, another symptom that can be attributed to autism or ADHD is inflammation of certain parts in the brain. Ever since Johns Hopkins University published findings on inflammation of the brain and a connection to autism in 2005, there have been many subsequent studies. Unfortunately, people with autism often have inflammation problems throughout the rest of the body and not just in the brain, such as the gastrointestinal system which leads to problems like diarrhea or constipation.
What To Expect During Treatment
Hyperbaric Plus™ treatment begins with PEMF. Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy helps stimulate blood flow and circulation throughout the body. This preps the body for the influx of oxygen during HBOT so that the oxygen can be better distributed during treatment.
Following 20 minutes of PEMF on a comfortable chaise lounge, members head into the HBOT chamber for 70 minutes. Many people describe the HBOT chamber to flying on an airplane because there is an initial increase in air pressure as the chamber is filled with pure oxygen. Then, members are invited to sit back and relax for the remainder of the treatment as they breathe in clean, pure oxygen to help stimulate the body and help it repair and rejuvenate naturally.
Hyperbaric Plus™ isn’t a one-and-done type of treatment. For best results, the body needs frequent and repeated exposure to the pure oxygen so it can develop healthy patterns again. Many members visit LyfeWell for months and even years, depending on the desired results.
